- Does an electric fence need to be set up as a loop? Does the end of the fence need to be connected back to the energizer?
No, it doesn't have to! You don't have to create a circuit for the current with your electric fence; you can end the fence at any point. When an animal touches the fence, it creates a short circuit and completes the circuit. The current then flows from the electric fence energizer through the electric fence tape or rope, through the animal, and over the ground and the earth rod back to the electric fence energizer. The animal feels this and has a deterrent effect!
