Pole pruner

Pole saws are chainsaws mounted on a telescopic pole. They are powered by a shaft between the engine block and the cutting mechanism. They are an alternative to pull saws, which are mounted on extendable poles.
These machines allow vertical cuts up to approximately four meters high from the ground. The safety advantage of using pole pruners lies in the fact that you don't have to rely on climbing aids such as ladders, thus eliminating a significant risk of falling.
They are mainly used for clearing roads and paths and removing dead branches from fruit trees.
Personal protective equipment (PPE)
- To protect yourself from falling cuttings, you will need a forestry helmet with hearing and face protection.
- Cutting work with pole pruners is often carried out on slopes, which is why safety footwear with non-slip professional soles is essential.
Special caution is required.
- ..near overhead power lines. Ensure sufficient distance is maintained.
- ..within the swivel range of the pole pruner for helpers or other persons. A distance of at least twice the length of the telescopic pole used must be maintained.
Safety tips
- Longer or heavier branches should be shortened piece by piece to prevent trunk injuries caused by peeling bark.
- Be careful of falling debris when cutting. This also applies to assistants.
- If several rows of branches need to be cut, start with the lowest one.
In recent years, electric saws with battery technology have increasingly entered the market. This reduces noise pollution. Machines with shoulder straps are preferred from an ergonomic perspective.
