Fundamentally, the drill bit must, of course, be suitable for the material being worked on. Wood drill bits for wood, metal drill bits for metal, ceramic drill bits for ceramics, tiles, concrete drill bits for concrete, etc.
HSS drill bits are now standard for metal drills – these drill bits are very well suited for universal use in metal.
For higher quality steels or stainless steels (Niro), a drill with a TIN coating or a high quality HSS cobalt drill is recommended.
There are two chucks available for concrete: the cylindrical chucks for standard drill chucks, and the SDS-Plus or SDS-Max chucks. Before purchasing, be sure to clarify what you need. An important distinction between SDS-Plus and SDS-Max drill bits is the number of cutting edges.
Rule of thumb: the more the better.
2 – Cutting drills are well suited for unalloyed (iron) concrete. If the concrete is alloyed, a 3-cutting drill or, even better, an SDS drill with 4 cutting edges is recommended.
However, these also offer higher drilling performance and a longer service life than 2-cutting SDS-Plus/SDS Max drills, even in normal concrete.
