Washing beekeeper suits
Beekeeping suits should be washed regularly to keep them clean and hygienic and to prolong their life. Most beekeeping suits can be washed in the washing machine, but on a gentle program at low temperatures (up to 30-40 degrees) and with a mild detergent. The hat is best washed by hand as it is particularly delicate.
The head section of many beekeeping suits is acceptable. This should be removed and cleaned separately before washing.
Select a gentle wash program, e.g. a wool wash program or a hand wash program.
Avoid using bleaching agents, as these can damage the materials of the suit.
A laundry bag protects the suit from damage during the wash cycle.
The beekeeping suit should ideally be left to air dry, as a tumble dryer can damage the suit materials.
The hat is best washed by hand as it is particularly delicate. Use a mild detergent or cold water.
Beekeeper gloves should also be washed separately. Preferably do not wash leather gloves!
