Wine/Cider Filter Colombo
Introduction
The wine/cider filter consists of filter sheets and an electric pump.
It is designed to clarify a wide variety of liquids, delivering clear results without altering the beverage's characteristics.
Applications
- Home use and hobby winemakers
- Wine trade and laboratories
- Beer and spirits production
- Pharmaceutical products and perfumes
All materials are food-grade. Maintenance is limited to regular cleaning.
The pump can also be used separately as a liquid transfer pump.
Safety Instructions
Important information before use
- Never operate the filter dry – always fill it with liquid.
- Wine must be filtered at least once after fermentation.
- Liquids must not contain solid objects (stones, seeds, stems, skins, leaves). Damage caused by solid objects is not covered by the warranty.
- Do not spray the electric pump with water – clean only with a dry cloth.
- Do not install third-party electric pumps or modify the unit.
Preparation
- Transfer the wine into a clean container to prevent sediment from being drawn into the filter.
- Remove the filter sheets according to the enclosed instruction sheet and inspect them.
- Soak the filter sheets for approximately 5 minutes in the same liquid to be filtered (do not squeeze or compress the filter sheets).
Assembly and Start-up
- Loosen the tightening nuts and separate the plastic plates.
- Place the gaskets onto the plates.
- Insert the filter sheets in the correct orientation:
- Printed side facing the pump.
- Alternate the orientation according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Reassemble the plates and filter sheets in sequence.
- Install the movable metal plate and tighten the tightening nut securely.
- Connect the suction hose (with spiral reinforcement) to the pump inlet and prime it with liquid.
- Connect the outlet hose to the metal plate and direct it into bottles or a suitable container.
- Switch on the unit – discard the first liter as a rinse.
Cleaning and Maintenance
After each use
- Switch off the pump and unplug it from the power supply.
- Remove the hoses and disconnect the pump from the filter.
- Flush the pump thoroughly with clean water (15–20 liters).
- Clean the plastic plates with water and a neutral detergent.
- Clean the housing with a damp cloth.
- Dispose of the filter sheets – do not reuse them.
- Store the unit in a dry, dust-free place.
Colombo Filter Sheets – Overview

0 – 4 |
Coarse filtration |
After fermentation – removes coarse particles but is not intended for final clarification. |
|
8 – 16 |
Medium-fine |
Removes smaller particles and improves clarity. Ideal for the second filtration stage. |
|
20 – 24 |
Fine / polishing filtration |
Removes very fine particles and the smallest impurities for exceptionally clear wine. Use only after pre-filtration with filter sheets No. 8–16. |
Filter sheets are single-use products – dispose of them after use.
Follow the correct sequence – always filter from coarse to fine.
The cloudier the wine, the faster the filter sheets will become clogged.

Warranty Conditions
- The warranty is void if non-original parts are used or unauthorized modifications are made.
- Damage caused by improper use or foreign objects in the liquid is not covered.
Can the filter sheets be used more than once?
No, these are single-use filters. They must be disposed of after each filtration cycle, as they become clogged and the filtration performance decreases.
Which filter sheet should I use and when?
No. 00 Oil
No. 0-4 Coarse filtration after fermentation (removes coarse suspended particles)
No. 8-16 Fine filtration, improves the wine's clarity and shine. Ideal for the second filtration stage.
No. 20-24 Ultra-fine final filtration (polishing filter), only after pre-filtration with No. 8-16.
My filter clogs very quickly – what is the reason?
- The wine is still too young or contains too many suspended particles.
- Very fine filters were used immediately without pre-filtration.
Does the wine always have to be filtered?
Not necessarily – but filtration is highly recommended for clear, stable wine without cloudiness.
Filtration should be carried out at least once after fermentation.
Can I use the machine to filter other liquids?
Yes. In addition to wine, it can also be used to filter cider, beer, infusions, spirits, perfumes or pharmaceutical products.
My wine is still cloudy after filtration – why?
It is possible that filtration was carried out too early or that a second filtration stage with finer filters is required.
The wine may still contain a lot of CO² – allow it to rest for several hours before bottling.
