Stepping relays are used where consumers are to be switched on or off using a switch/button, e.g. work lights, seat valves, directional control valves, etc.
Ie, if a current is applied to terminal 15 (button pressed once), the relay switches on terminal 87 and holds itself - current on terminal 87 despite releasing the button! When you press the button (impulse) again, the relay switches off again and terminal 87 is de-energized - impulse switch or toggle flip-flop.
In the rest position of the relay, terminal 87a is constantly supplied with power and is in one Changeover function with terminal 87.
Connections:
30 directly from the battery, continuous positive
87 consumer 1
87a consumer 2, constantly supplied with power over 30 when the relay is in the rest position
31 ground
15 of switch/button, switching current
87, 87a changeover function (alternating current on 87 &~ 87a)
